This year I have grown my cucumbers in large pots rather than growbags and they are doing much better. The variety is Unwins "Tasty King" and they are cropping very well. It is an F1 hybrid so no male flowers to worry about.
I've just planted my tomatoes in buckets rather than grow bags - great success! I used special tomato compost. Unfortunately I also used the same compost for my aubergines and tomatoes, and they don't like it at all. I didn't realise the wrong compost could have such a profound effect.
